Best Small Town Cop/Sheriff Romance Novels . My least favorite of the 3 Virgin River books. Such was the case with Robyn Carr's WHISPERING ROCK.

We just heard a lot about them. The ending was pretty sweet when it came to Brie and Mike so that made me happy. Mar 01, Corrine rated it really liked it Shelves: contemporary , emotionally-or-physically-scarred. As I started this book I said that this was going to be my last Virgin River novel. Don't get me wrong, Robyn Carr can write but I get tired of the romance being put on the back burner while the entire town gets center stage.
As I finished this book, however, I knew there was no way I could stop here.
Let's keep in touch!
There's something so addictive, so hypnotic, about Carr's writing and the character dynamics she's set up, that - even if the "main" romance isn't your thing - you're compelled to keep reading. I think they make a nice couple and I bought their HEA, but Carr just showed way too little of them for me to get deeply involved. Which is a shame, because there was so much potential story in there, and instead of building it up and showing it to the reader, RC decided to tell us about it instead and get back ASAP to the drama of Virgin River.
I have to say, this book really didn't make me like Mel any more than I did in Virgin River , and I know that A Virgin River Christmas is probably going to be more of the same. But - damn it - I must know what happens next in that town! Jul 06, Christa rated it it was amazing Shelves: library. With her Virgin River series, Robyn Carr is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
Whispering Rock, the third in the series, was another great book. As with the second novel in the series, this book does not really have a primary focus on the characters who are portrayed as the main ones in the synopsis, but is instead about several characters with ties to the community of Virgin River. I found the story of Mike and Brie to be very satisfactory, and I loved seeing more of Jack and Mel from With her Virgin River series, Robyn Carr is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I found the story of Mike and Brie to be very satisfactory, and I loved seeing more of Jack and Mel from the first book, as well as Preacher and Page from the second book.
This book also has quite a bit about Paul, another marine who served under Jack, and it appears that he will probably find his HEA in a later book. This book also has a teen romance. Mike, a former LAPD officer, who has retired after being shot in the line of duty, is in Virgin River recovering from his wounds. Brie, an assistant district attorney and sister of Jack Sheridan, is raped and beaten by a man who was acquitted when she tried him as a serial rapist. Mike has deep feelings for Brie, and is determined to do whatever he can to help her heal. I liked the way that Mike and Brie accepted their feelings for one another and realized immediately how important each was to the other.
I was a little disappointed in some of Mel's reactions during this book, but she had redeemed herself for me by the end. I love reading about the characters in this community that Robyn Carr has created, and I will be anxiously awaiting the next book. It is great to read about characters who are part of such a caring and loving community. Jan 25, Beanbag Love rated it really liked it. Keep the tissues handy. All these stories are about healing, but the hardship has to happen first.
Even the things that you see coming from a mile away are effective. Carr pulls a lot of emotion out of the reader and her stories are very powerful. Mike and Brie both have pain and regrets.
The things that bring them together then the evolution of their relationship made for really great reading. And plenty of tears, but lovely romance as well. The side stories are powerful as well. One seemed to po Keep the tissues handy. One seemed to pop up out of the blue a third of the way in, but it ended up integrating very well. Carr's research is very thorough and, although it makes it's way to the page, it never quite feels like an 'info-dump', which is very refreshing.
Another solid four star. These books can probably stand on their own, but they really should be read in order to get the best effect. This is the 3rd book in the Virgin River series and the 3rd I've read. I have to say that the books are getting rather "crowded", if you will. Not only does each book contain the story of a new couple but it updates in some thoroughness the stories of the 2 couples before. It works tho it isn't a series I'd want to read out of order, for sure.
Whispering Rock (Virgin River, #3) by Robyn Carr
For fear of giving spoilers I don't usually give away a lot of plot but I will say that the plot lines for each couple work very well. It isn't hard to This is the 3rd book in the Virgin River series and the 3rd I've read. It isn't hard to feel yourself getting emotionally involved with the group. In a couple of places, I even shed some tears and that's not a usual occurrence for me.
The series isn't for anyone looking for lots of hot graphic sex but the series is great at providing a romantic, comforting read. A literary grilled cheese and bowl of tomato soup, if you will.

Trust me. Another beautiful, warm and bittersweet addition to the Virgin River series. Our spotlight couple, Mike and Brie go through a realistic courtship and her recovery was slow and painstaking.
Whispering Rock should be dedicated to victims of sexual assault for it chronicles their emotions in amazing and dignified detail. Brie is not the only victim in this story and Robyn Carr created a scarily all too real fictional account of the horrors and betrayal of high school rape. Because the subject matter in this story is so sad, the humor in Whispering Rock while prevalent, is bittersweet. Take your joy while you can because life can turn on you in an instant.
Love and babies, and death and tragedy go hand in hand in this story and though sometimes it hurt to continue, this was such a worthwhile story and should not be missed. Mar 07, TJ rated it really liked it Shelves: chic-lit , contemporary. The Virgin River series and Whispering Rock in particular, are the type of books one reads when quiet, restful time is needed.
Each one focuses on a love story set in the same small mountain town. The names in each book change but the feeling is always consistent - low key, day to day happenings with people who care about each other. In this installment, Mike and Brie have known each other for years but life has taken them on separate journeys - until now. Mike is in Virgin River recovering from The Virgin River series and Whispering Rock in particular, are the type of books one reads when quiet, restful time is needed. Brie, a tenacious district attorney is trying to put her life back together after a devastating divorce and a brutal rape.
The story moves along slowly the downside but understandably, as both characters need time to work through, come to terms with their pasts and each other, then learn to trust again. An added bonus in this series is that the reader gets to keep track of all the previous characters and what's happening in their lives, along with the new ones although I am getting annoyed at the surprise baby theme.

That said, I don't think I'd have the patience to read them, as they're not as couple centered as I prefer in my romances. However, I've loved listening to them as I go about my day. I think I liked book 2 better, but I think this book dealt with a dark topic really well so overall thumbs up.
